The house was designed in great detail by the Studio for Civil Architecture, NYC. The entry courtyard contains a formal garden leading to the front door. The rear of the home fans out to take advantage of the lot which expands to the rear. There is a guest porch, a rear terrace, an outdoor cooking area and a screen porch off the kitchen. The kitchen exemplifies the theme of the house, understated, timeless, a new "old" home. Here the center island with a walnut serving top is the focal point while the work areas are topped in soapstone. The dining room opens up directly from the kitchen with little fuss or formality. The nook to the right is for watching t.v. from this gathering space. Passing through the dining area, the sunfilled living room opens up to a two story space with balconies above. A benched inglenook surrounds the fireplace for a cozy fireside appearance. Most of the walls in this country estate are wood paneled with a light brushed finish, allowing the texture of the cypress paneling to show through. Built in benches set in dormers bringing in light to the upper living area. The open study beyond is the owner's retreat. The ceiling of the living area is river reclaimed cypress which has been hand rubbed and waxed. The master suite is beyond, with a dressing room behind antique glass operable windows. The master bedroom sleeping area offers a lovely view perch above the backyard and spills out to the sleeping porch on the next slide. Everyone who visits the house seems to love the sleeping porch directly off the master. Note the resored antique lights which are used throughout the house. The reproduction fan is unique in that the motor is hidden in the ceiling. The master bath continues the "old" theme with an oil rubbed antique oak floor, subway tiles and wood paneling. The tub offers a great second story view. Downstairs to the basement offers the reward of this fine wine cellar with an antique tasting table and groin vault plaster ceiling topping the stone arches. A great spot to start an evening in this welcoming home.
