The spacious living area of the Kommor house in Charleston, WV, features site built trusses and headerless clearstory windows giving it an open feeling. The house features custom cabinetry throughout designed and built by our shop to fit the house and the owners needs. A contemporary home with clean lines, it was featured in "Fine Homebuilding" issue #75. Designed by architect Doug Thompson of Mill Valley, California, with Corlis Design & Construction as the general contractor. The master bedroom features custom built-ins and a see through fireplace back to back with the master bathroom. The entry features a "grand wall" that divides the public rooms from the private spaces in the house. It brings the exterior through to the interior with the entry window connecting seamlessly into the siding without interrupting the flow of the wall. The entire house is built like a cabinet with mitered corners on cedar siding and fine details throughout. The master bath, lined in cedar and tile, feature a whirlpool tub and spacious shower. The fireplace is a see through that backs up to the one in the master bedroom. A page from the "Fine Homebuilding" article featuring the curving back stairs with built in planter shelves and the massive stone fireplace and roll out TV cabinet in the living room.
